1.
Paraffin block containing a tissue, e.g., lung adenocarcinoma, with
a previously determined level of expression of an epitope, e.g., cytokeratin 7.
2.
A skin punch biopsy needle is used to cut out representative
tissue. The size of the needle can vary from 2 to 6 mm
depending on personal preference, the size of the original
sample in the block, and the number of pieces to be included in
the multi-tissue block. The skin punch biopsy needle has to be
hollow so that one can use a wooden or metal probe to push out
sampled tissue.
3.
Some
blocks may be extensively sampled to prepare multiple multi-tissue blocks. However, substantial amount of tissue
representative of the lesion should be preserved for the
archives.
