Enhance the stain signal The most used chromogens are Diaminobenzidine (DAB) and Aminoethylcarbazole (AEC). The advantage of DAB is the possibility of enhancement using imidazol and a metal salt, e.g., copper sulphate, thereby increasing the sensitivity. Another advantage is that DAB allows hydrophobic embedding. A new red chromogen, NovoRed, is almost as sensitive as DAB and also allows hydrophobic embedding. A change from AEC to an enhanced DAB has in our laboratory given a four fold enhancement on the average. |
